Distant Voices

A percussive song with intentionally sparse melodic/harmonic accompaniement to evoke the sound of chant and drum rhythms. The song is about the discovery of the graves of children at Indian residential schools which operated in Canada from 1831 to 1998. These schools had been set up to assimilate the children of indegenous communities. The Truth and Reconcilliation Commission has vowed to investigate all schools and search out all the graves of the missing children. This song is my response to honour the children forced into these tragic circumstances. Without Truth there can be no Reconcilliation.
