Quiet and alone sounding, this expressive recitative unfolds with graceful intent as each section offers a musical response to, or an elaboration on, the opening LH melodic idea. An effort should be made to project the LH voice while keeping the RH subdued. The soloist speaks with minimal pedal markings to achieve an exposed solo line that requires careful melodic shaping and tone projection. Easy to read but difficult to play, requiring careful listening to the solo voice.
