Ophelia Dances Alone

Ophelia’s journey – dancing in slow motion as she moves towards the water’s edge, oblivious to the impending darkness that lurks. She moves with a blissful free abandon completely immersed in the graceful motions of her dance. She expresses herself through dance, her mind at ease. This piece requires a broad palette of touches and careful pedalling starting with her opening fragile state, then inner voices emerging with the tension building rising chromatic sequences. Darker more ominous erratic figures suggest the chaos within, the fractured mind alternating with states of a trance-like delirium. Eventually a frenzied madness completes the end of Ophelia’s tortured journey. The final closing motive eventually dissipates the unsettled turmoil and welcomes a calming serenity.
